EDIT!!! - I added more the my bio teacher gave us! ^o^  - I put them after my added stuff, so they're not bolded and past the bolded ones o@ lol

These are some interesting animal facts that our Biology teacher showed us and posting on our online site for us to read – I thought they were pretty cool, so I decided to share them ^o^ - If you want to you can pass them off yourself in your own journal, lol

Though I knew a lot of these facts long before she gave them to us, being an animal lover and at one point I WAS going into a biological Science field dealing with animals – There were a few facts even I didn’t know and thought was funny/awesome >.<0 lol

The blue whale is the loudest animal on Earth.

The catgut formerly used as strings in tennis rackets and musical instruments does not come from cats. Catgut actually comes from sheep, hogs, and horses.

The cheetah is the only cat in the world that can't retract its claws.

The fastest -moving land snail, the common garden snail, has a speed of 0.03 mph.

The giant squid is the largest creature without a backbone. It weighs up to 2.5 tons and grows up to 55 feet long.

The hummingbird cannot walk.

A Tiger’s SKIN is actually striped – not just it’s fur.

Aphids( Small green insects that ladybugs eat, lol) Are born pregnant and give birth 10 days after they are born.

A Duck’s Quack doesn’t echo.

When Whales and Dolphins sleep, half their brain stays fully active to control surfacing and breathing, etc to prevent them from drowning. in other words - Whales and dolphins can literally fall half asleep; their brain hemispheres alternate sleeping, so the animals can continue to surface and breathe.

Ant’s don’t sleep.

cheetah's are the only big cats that purr

A Rat’s back is super strong – it can withstand you stepping on it and be fine.

A rat can also squeeze through a hole to size of a penny. It does so by collapsing it’s skeleton   into itself and squeezing through the small space.

Rat’s also can’t expel any gas – so if you made them drink/eat something like pop – they’d explode o@ lol

You can usually tell if an Orca Whale (A.K.A – Killer whale ) is a male by it’s dorsal fin. Males stand straight up like a knife, while females (and all young whales too, lol ) have their dorsal fins curve back towards their tails.

Turkeys are one of the most unintelligent animals in the world – When it rains, Turkeys look up at the sky to see where the water is coming from and keep their mouths wide open and end up drowning themselves., lol

As well, Turkeys can be literally scared to DEATH by something as simple as paper fluttering in the wind.

Snails are transsexual – When mating, the male chews off it’s penis to get free from the female, then alters itself to become a female. ( PLEASE don’t ask how I know that one o@ hahahahha…hahaha….haha…ha… >////>0 lol )

Komodo Dragons bring down large prey by biting it, letting it go and then follows it.. – A few days later the animal will collapse and die from a horrid infection left by the toxins in a komodo Dragons mouth

Lionesses do all the hunting in a pride – The male lion(s) just take the food first once it’s brought back, lol

Cheetah’s are the fastest land animal in the world – able to reach about 70 miles an hour.

The Peregrine Falcon has one of the fastest Diving speeds in the world – reaching about 120 miles an hour in a swoop o@

The strongest animal in the world is a Hercules beetle able to lift something like 400 times it’s own weight o@ lol

In Birds of prey – The FEMALE is usually the larger bird, not the male.

A spitting cobra is able to spit poison up to 3 meters away and hit to enemy in the eyes o@ lol

An artic fox is brown and tan in color during the summer to blend into the surroundings – this is caused by the summer heat and it affects the pigment in their fur.

If you separate two ‘love birds’ or if one dies – they will/the other will die as love from a broken heart – that is why they are called ‘love birds’

The ONLY other animal in the world that has sex for pleasure - not just for reproductive purposes - is the dolphin.

LOL Amazingly, I knew a lot of those.

By the way, did you know that the ONLY other animal in the world that has sex for pleasure - not just for reproductive purposes - is the dolphin?
